Back in October, we had a pretty unique opportunity to collaborate with not one, but two amazingly talented musicians. We were contacted by “a cappella” artist Peter Hollens regarding a video he had been wanting to shoot in advance of his first album release. Peter is a tremendous talent musically, known for recording covers of songs you already know, but adding a twist to each. The result is a collection of infectiously fun songs that are, as he puts it, created entirely by the voice, mouth, and body. No instruments! And that just makes his work all the more impressive.
As of writing this post, Peter’s album has been released and is most definitely worth the $10. You should go buy it now. Go ahead. We’ll wait.
Peter’s debut album is full of inspiring arrangements that appeal to just about every age group. Among the CD’s contents is a duet he recorded with Pittsburgh native Jackie Evancho, who took the world by storm in 2010 when she appeared on America’s Got Talent. Then only 10 years old, her soprano voice floored the judges and left many questioning if it was really her or if she was lip syncing. Since then, she has embarked on what is sure to become a legendary career, having already become the youngest solo artist to go platinum.
When we were contacted by Peter, he had already recorded his duet with Jackie, a cover of the song “Hallelujah.” Since Peter resides in Oregon, shooting a live collaboration with Jackie just wasn’t practical. Thus, we were brought on to shoot her segment so that it could be incorporated into Peter’s recording. For the sake of versatility in post-production, we chose to film her against a green screen so that the editing team could insert a custom background.
Working with Jackie was so much fun, and she displayed a maturity level well beyond her years. She’ll soon be traveling around the world promoting her newest studio album “Awakening”, which was released in September. Be sure to check that out as well! We can’t wait to work with Jackie again in the future and wish her lots of success.
The video for “Hallelujah” will be released very soon, so sit tight! We’ll share the link once it’s out in the wild. Until then, here’s a sneak peek at what we captured on our end, though it’s sure to look much different after the editors work their magic!
